7 Reasons To Visit Orlando This Winter

If you’re thinking of taking a break as the winter cold snap settles in then you’ll be sure to want to consider a trip to Orlando, Florida. There are many reasons why Orlando is the perfect place to visit to get away from the rain, snow and the cold and here’s the top 7.

  1. Weather

Orlando, Florida has a temperate climate. In winter months you are almost assured of daily sunshine. Sometimes it does get a little cooler but it’s very unusual for it to be cold for too long and temperatures are usually in the 60’s or 70’s during the daytime and dip to the high 40’s or low 50’s in the evening. This makes your trip all the more enjoyable as you are able to get out and explore some of the wonderful things the area has to offer.

  1. Theme Parks

Orlando is the theme park capital of the world. Its three major theme park operators are Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and SeaWorld but there are many other smaller attractions to enjoy. You can count the manatees at Blue Spring State Park or experience Central Florida’s natural beauty on horseback. You can touch an iceberg at Titanic – The Exhibition or ride in an open-cockpit vintage airplane at Kissimmee Air Museum’s Warbird Adventures. You can see the weird and wild at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Orlando Odditorium or design and ride your own roller coaster at WonderWorks. For something completely different then zip along the treetops on an exciting zipline tour at Forever Florida and don’t forget that Fun Spot America (pictured above) has some “HUGE” attractions at their International Drive or Kissimmee locations.

  1. Shopping

Orlando has some of the very best shopping available in the United States today. The Mall of Millenia is a favorite among locals, while the Florida Mall remains extremely popular with visitors. In addition you can find plenty of bargains at places like Orlando Premium Outlets, Orlando Prime Outlets and The Loop.  You must also make a visit to Winter Park’s “Rodeo Drive” — the eclectic Park Avenue shopping district.

  1. Dining

For that culinary experience then Orlando really does tickle the taste buds. From fine dining to some of the great fast food establishments you’ll be sure to find something to suit every palate and every pocket. “Restaurant Row” on Sand Lake Road in the Dr. Phillips area is an amazing area to visit while other great places to visit are Winter Park and the Mall of Millenia area and if you’d like to sample some wine, then visit the locally made wines at Lakeridge Winery.

  1. Sport

Getting outside for a game of golf or tennis is a great way to spend some time in the winter. Orlando was recently voted the “North American Golf Destination of the Year 2010” and is home to over 176 of the finest golf courses you’ll find on the planet. If you want to watch some great professional golf then the PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational is held every year at Bay Hill. Baseball fanatics can also catch the Atlanta Braves’ spring baseball training at the ESPN Wide World of Sports® Complex and tennis buffs can improve their game and enjoy some great facilities at The Orlando Tennis Center. You can also learn to water-ski at the Orlando Watersports Complex or Lake Buena Vista Water Sports. If soccer is your game then you’ll not want to miss the inaugural Major League Soccer season for Orlando City Soccer complete with Brazilian legend Kaká (pictured above).

  1. Culture

Orlando is becoming increasingly well known for its culture. From interesting museums through to great shows and theater productions you’ll be sure to appreciate the finer things in life. Marvel at Tiffany glass at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park or experience the serenity of nature as you stroll through the lush, vibrant gardens at Harry P. Leu Gardens. You can take an art class at Crealdé School of Art or Maitland Art Center or enjoy a carillon concert at Bok Tower Gardens. Fancy a good read?  Visit the iconic Orlando Public Library, designed by John M. Johansen and Duane Stark, and inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Orlando is also the place where you can watch top recording artists perform at House of Blues®, Hard Rock® Live or Amway Center. The City Beautiful also has the fabulous and brand new $500 million Dr. Philips Center for the Performing Arts (pictured above) which now has some of the top productions in the world coming to town.

Orlando is an unbeatable value. There really is no other place that can offer you great weather, fabulous entertainment, super sport, and some great culinary and cultural experiences for your money.  It’s a great place to visit and you’ll enjoy a winter break away from the cold weather in Central Florida.
